Significance
(+)-Fomannosin is a phythopathogenic metabolite isolated from the wood-rotting fungus Fomes annosus (Fr.) Karst. A zirconocene-mediated ring contraction (AÆB) is the key step of the present synthesis. The d-glucose-derived tetrahydrofuran A was transformed into the natural product in 23 steps.
